December 14, 2017 marks the 5th anniversary of the Sandy Hook tragedy. Since that heartbreaking day in Newtown five years ago, half a million Americans have been killed or injured by guns. We urge you to join us in our effort to continue to shed a light on the devastating epidemic of gun violence in our nation until these gun deaths and injuries are reduced.
NATIONWIDE VIGILS TO #EndGunViolence: The victims, survivors and the families impacted by gun violence are often forgotten. Therefore, the Newtown Foundation, the charitable arm of the Newtown Action Alliance, in partnership with Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Everytown Survivor Network, Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Organizing for Action, States United to Prevent Gun Violence, St Marks Episcopal Church and Women’s March on Washington will host the annual national vigil service of mourning and loving remembrance for all who have fallen victim to the ongoing epidemic of gun violence in America on December 6th and nationwide vigils/events from December 6-17th.
We are looking for faith, gun violence prevention, social justice, LGBTQ and other organizations to hold a local vigil/event in their towns and cities from December 6-17th. Our goal is to unite the movement, continue to raise awareness, educate, and keep this critical issue front and center throughout our nation.
We thank all the activists and groups who planned the 330+ local vigils/events in 43 states last year. Our goal for this year is to hold over 500 local vigils/events in ALL 50 states. We encourage you to work with the families and survivors impacted by gun violence and allies in your community to honor all Americans impacted by gun violence and stand together to collectively push for gun violence prevention in our towns and cities.
Please complete this form to host a vigil or an event in your town or city and we will send you the 2017 National Vigil Toolkit to facilitate your planning and to coordinate our collective gun violence prevention message.
